The Lorelei is a small hotel with a bar in the front, the bar is quite small with seating for 20 to 30 people in each section, of which there are two, separated by a fireplace (which i haven't seen lit).
You walk in through the door, past a curious flowerpot man and turn left into the bar, the actual bar itself is at the opposite end of the room, on the right hand side. They always have a good selection of beers and ciders, some from the barrel out the back. They often have some curious bottles and drinks such as mulled wine in the winter, They have a regular beer festival with the restaurant, which is out the back converted to hold the 10 or 20 barrels from which you can taste, or gulp whatever your preference.
They do a range of food, both in the restaurant and the bar.
I like the Lorelei, because of the beer mainly, a jug of Bass straight from the barrel and I am sold, but the staff are friendly and when it isn't to busy there is a nice atmosphere.
I don't like the set up of the restaurant, as with many pubs it seems to be very utilitarian with no character, a canteen again.
The bar itself is OK, the seating isn't great but does the job.
Although I haven't eaten there for a while the food was standard, used to be very good but slightly lost it's edge.
I would say it is well worth stopping for a pint of good beer if you are in Porthcawl.

The Lorelei is the best 'local' in Porthcawl. Bar food is excellent (no restaurant now). It is famous for its selection of fine ales. You can be sure of a warm welcome from Andy, Sue and staff.
